Yanks Humiliate O's

The Orioles were beat down Tuesday night, losing 9-1 at the new Yankee Stadium.

Don't let the final score fool you...the Birds were in the game until a sickening seventh inning, when the Yankees scored seven runs and ran away with the win.

O's starter Brad Bergesen pitched a gem, allowing just a 2-run shot from A-Rod in the first inning before settling down and retiring the Yankees with ease until the fateful seventh...with the Birds trailing 2-1, skipper Dave Trembley saw it fit for Bergesen to come back out to the mound and try for the win...BIG MISTAKE...after recording one out, Bergesen walked the next two batters before Trembley summoned Chris Ray from the bullpen...ANOTHER BIG MISTAKE...Ray couldn't record an out but allowed seven runs to cross the plate (the first two runs were charged to Bergesen, the final five to Ray). Check out the box score...

The worst part...Ray would've escaped the inning with a double-play ball, but shortstop Robert Andino, filling in for Cesar Izturis, botched the play that allowed New York the big inning...Adam Jones also committed an error a few batters later, and the Yankees kept piling on the runs...honestly, game one was an absolute embarrassment.

Luckily, there's always tomorrow...and the O's have staff ace Jeremy Guthrie on the mound for Wednesday night...here's hoping the Birds can snap the Yankees winning streak, and start one of their own...Go O's!
