O's Falling to New Lows

The Birds struck first but the Tigers drew the last blood, beating the O's 6-5 in Detroit on Monday night.

Brian Roberts led-off with a solo home run, and the O's scored five runs on six hits in the first inning off Detroit's Justin Verlander. After that...nothing.

Chris Tillman allowed three runs in the bottom of the first, and the Tigers slowly crept back. Tillman allowed five runs through six innings on seven hits, while walking three and fanning five. Cla Meredith pitched a scoreless seventh, and Danys Baez struck out the side in the eighth before giving up a walk-off homer with two outs in the bottom of the ninth.

Obviously, I'm absolutely disgusted with the outcome. The Birds set a new low, falling 17 games below .500. I just can't fathom how a team can rough-up a premier starter in the first and look so helpless throughout the rest of the game. It's just ridiculous...

Brian Matusz makes his MLB debut for the Birds Tuesday night...Go O's!
