Yankees Walk Away with Win

The O's came close, but fell to the New York Yankees 2-1 on Monday night.

Nick Markakis gave the Birds an early 1-0 lead with a solo shot in the first inning, but the O's were held scoreless after that...Cesar Izturis and Brian Roberts were both tagged out at home in the bottom of the eighth before the Yankees walked-off in the ninth...

The only positive? The O's pitching. Rookie David Hernandez was shaky early but left after six solid innings. Hernandez gave up just one run (a solo homer in the second) on three hits and left with the score knotted at one. Lefty reliever Mark Hendrickson pitched an inning of shutout ball before Jim Johnson was called in...Johnson pitched a scoreless eighth and got one out in the ninth before giving up a solo homer to Hideki Matsui to end the game...

All three runs came off solo homers in the new Yankee Stadium...

The Birds send Rich Hill to the mound Tuesday night...Go O's!

O' Yeah...
  • With the win (and Boston's loss), the Yankees are now tied for first with the Red Sox
  • The O's (41-51) are ten games under .500 and in last place in the division
