It was the second time this week the O's were blanked; they were one-hit by Seattle on Monday.
Orioles' starter Jason Berken (1-6) pitched well but took the loss. Berken allowed two runs on five hits over 5 2/3 innings while walking two and striking out one. Matt Albers and Kam Mickolio combined to one-hit the Jays through the final 3 1/3 frames, but the damage had been done.
The O's managed just five hits, all singles, through nine innings. Luke Scott (2-for-4 with two strikeouts) was the only player with two hits for the Birds. Cesar Izturis went 0-for-2 with a walk in his return to the team, and grounded out with the bases loaded in the second to end the O's only real scoring threat.
The Birds take on the Jays again on Saturday night; Rich Hill is back in the starting rotation and is scheduled to take the mound...Go O's!
O' Yeah...
- The Birds are 0-1 without skipper Dave Trembley in the dugout...he served the first of his two-game suspension Friday night
- Jeremy Guthrie is out with a viral infection; he should be healthy enough to start after the break...Rich Hill is pitching in his place
- David Hernandez was sent down to Norfolk to make room for Izturis...it looks like he'll make a start in the minors and will be called back up after the break
