O's Shock Mariners with Ninth Inning Comeback

After being shut down through eight innings, the O's scored five runs in the ninth to steal a 5-3 win over Seattle on Wednesday afternoon.

The Birds had been unable to produce until the final frame, and were able to head home from the West Coast with a series win over the Mariners and riding a 2-game win streak...overall, the O's went 3-4 on the seven-game trip.

Starter David Hernandez looked sharp and kept the O's in the game through six innings...he allowed a 2-run homer in the first but kept the Mariners off the board after that. Hernandez took a no-decision and allowed five hits and two walks while striking out three. Brian Bass (5-2) allowed an unearned run in the eighth and was credited with the win, and George Sherrill pitched a scoreless ninth to pick up his 19th save.

Before the ninth inning, the O's were shut out on four hits, six walks and ten strikeouts. In the ninth, the Birds took advantage of two errors and scored five runs (four earned) on five hits and a walk...Aubrey Huff was picked-off first base and strained his groin during the rally.

The O's are off Thursday and play three home games against the Toronto Blue Jays before the All-Star Break...Jason Berken (1-5) is slated to take the mound on Friday night...Go O's!!!
