Danks, White Sox Silence O's

John Danks kept the Birds' bats in check, Jeremy Guthrie had a disappointing evening, and the O's fell to Chicago 8-2 Wednesday night.

Danks (2-0) controlled the game from the first pitch...he went seven innings and allowed just four hits. Luke Scott's solo shot in the fifth was the only run the O's could manage off him.

Guthrie (2-1) got hit hard for the second straight game...the Orioles' staff ace lasted six innings and was charged with five runs off eight hits and three walks.

The Birds are now 7-8 on the season, and need a win later this evening to win the series...don't hold your breath, as Adam Eaton is scheduled to start. Eaton (0-2) has lasted just four innings in both of his previous starts...Go O's!!!

O' Yeah...

  • Alfredo Simon will undergo surgery and is out for the season...looks like Bergesen is here to stay...

  1. Jon,

I know Uehara just went for 7 the other night but it seems like we don't have any starting pitchers who can go deep. Do you see this a season long problem or an early season aberration? It's probably not good to expect 3/4/5 innings out of the bullpen EVERY night.

Thanks again for the post. Your blog is now my first check on O's news in the morning.

  2. Wow! Thanks...I don't know if I'm the definitive post to check but I certainly appreciate it!

As for your question, I honestly believe that both Guthrie and Uehara will start to pitch deep into games on a regular basis, and Bergesen should be able to produce as well. Hendrickson seems capable, and after Thursday's performance (still pinching myself) it appears Adam Eaton may be able to go the distance as well. Rich Hill should be back shortly, so all-in-all I think that this starting rotation SHOULD be able to keep the 'pen rested...but who knows?
