Jeremy Guthrie picked up his second win of the season and the O's offense struck early as the Birds shutout Tampa Bay 6-0 Saturday night.
The O's batted around in the first inning, highlighted by Melvin Mora's grand slam that put the Birds up 5-0. Guthrie went six innings, allowing just five hits while walking none and striking out two.
Matt Albers, Jamie Walker and Chris Ray combined for three innings of shutout ball. Ray gave up a hit and a walk, but struck out the side to end the game...I know it's still early but after tonight's performance it looks like Ray is back! It looks like this may be a new trend for the bullpen...both Danys Baez and George Sherrill struck out the side last night...keep it up!
This marked the first time the Orioles have won their first two series since 1998 (yes, it's been that long!). The O's are now 4-1 and have a chance to sweep the Rays tomorrow afternoon before heading to Texas.
After the game, Matt Albers was optioned to Triple-A to make room for Adam Eaton, tomorrow's starting pitcher (I'm not so sure about this move, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see if it was the right one to make). I'll be back tomorrow night...have a Happy Easter and Go O's!
