Rays Blank O's

The Orioles had a chance to win when they loaded the bases with none out in the first inning...instead, they lost to the visiting Rays 3-0 on Thursday night.

That scoring opportunity was the best chance the Birds would have all night, as they were shut out on four hits and two walks by a rookie pitcher (both walks and one hit came in the first inning). The Rays' Wade Davis struck out ten in a complete game victory...his first win in the Majors. Davis threw 124 pitches...more than any Oriole starter this season, if I recall correctly.

Mark Hendrickson (5-5) came back to the starting rotation and looked just fine through three innings...the rest of the bullpen backed him up but there's just so much you can do when the offense gives you nothing...

Still, the Birds split the 4-game set with Tampa Bay after taking two of three from the Yankees...sadly, that's progress! The Boston Red Sox come to town over the weekend, and Jeremy Guthrie (10-14) takes the mound Friday night...Go O's!
