Ninth Inning Rally Sinks O's

The Birds dropped a close game in Seattle Wednesday night, losing 3-2 to the Mariners.

The O's took an early 2-o lead in the first inning on an Aubrey Huff bomb, but the call was reversed after replays showed the ball was foul. After that it was all up to Luke Scott, who drove in both runs for the Birds. Scott hit a solo homer in the second inning and had an RBI double in the sixth, but that was all the O's could muster.

Starter Brad Bergesen was magnificent, going seven strong innings and allowing just two runs on five hits. Relief pitcher Jim Johnson (2-3) was charged with the loss after allowing the game-winning single in the ninth inning.

The Birds (24-30) are off Thursday before beginning a 3-game set against Oakland (21-30) Friday night...Oakland hasn't been playing great baseball as of late, so hopefully the Birds can win the series before heading back home...Go O's!

  1. Live account from the game:

First, it is days like yesterday that make me sad to leave the Pacific North West. It was an absolutly beautiful day. I am NOT looking forwad to the humidity of the east coast when I move back in July.

Second, I could get shot for saying this out here but I think Ichero is the most imfemanant player since Piazza. Hit's like a champ but prances around the ballpark with his loafers 10 feet below him.

Third, O's looked good but I am sorry that I got to see them in this power slump. Even though Luke Scott is a beast right now. Bergson looked strong and pitched himself out of trouble several times.

Finally, the reputation is not there but Seattle has great fans. They are good sports and really care about the team. Safco is a great place to go see a game, especially on a day like yesterday. It is worth it to miss a half an inning to see the sunset over the Olympic Mountatins.

I hope I have better luck watching the O's at home. In three years and 6 games, I have yet to see the O's beat the M's in person.

  2. the Mariner Fans are great, but i'm a redskins fan and when i went to the Seahawks-redskins game last season and i was wearing my skins stuff, man i wanted to punch some of them people.....i'm just glad none of them said anything sbout Sean Taylor...

but i disagree with u on Irico, personally i really dont like that way he goes to hit the ball, but i think people give him to much credit cuz he is probably the most talked about player on the Seattle Mariners roster ever since Jr. left, and even though Jr. is back, people still care about Suszuki more than they do Jr. i'd love to have a high profile player like Jr. in the O's lineup, we havnt had one since Sammy Sosa, and i never considered Tejeda a high profile player
